Academic Flexibility for Athletes: Combining Sports Success with University Studies

Schiller’s history is deeply rooted in sports. Our university founder Walter Leibrecht first founded Schiller Academy, where former world No. 1 tennis player Andy Murray studied and graduated. Since then, we have been committed to developing the athletes of the future, both in the classroom and on the court.

Meet our Speakers

Feliciano López

Former Pro Tennis Player

Feliciano López is a former Spanish professional tennis player. He has won seven ATP singles titles and reached eleven finals. After his retirement in June 2023, López became the director of the Mutua Madrid Open, one of the most prestigious in the world. He also serves as the director of the Davis Cup Finals.

Stephanie Martin

Schiller Alumni

Stephanie won gold at the 2024 Spanish Absolute Championship and bronze in Clean & Jerk at the European U23s. With multiple podiums in 2022-23, she balanced elite sports with a BA in International Relations & Diplomacy earcned at Schiller International University.

The Student Council organizes many sports events throughout the academic year, such as a Padel tournament on the Madrid campus and taking part in the Heidelberg marathon.

Heidelberg

  1. Rowing - An annual rowing regatta along the stunning Neckar River.
  2. Horse-Riding Clubs – Allow for equestrian activities, including dressing and jumping.
  3. Trial Marathon – Leads runners through the Old Town and over picturesque mountaintops.
  4. Heidelberg Triathlon – Swim along the Neckar River, cycle around Old Town, and run up Philosopher’s Path.

Tampa

  1. Over 100 golf courses – Some of the country’s best thanks to the area’s temperate climate.
  2. Ranches – Students can practice horse riding and other equestrian activities, from show jumping to nature trails.
  3. Races – Many half marathons, marathons, and adventure races year-round.
  4. Sports Clubs – Students can join clubs such as field hockey, ice hockey, soccer, volleyball, equestrian, and many more.
