Only applicable to non-US Citizens

An international student who wants to study in the United States must acquire a student Visa prior to entry. In order to obtain an F1 Student Visa, you must apply for a Visa at the USA Embassy in your country. The form I-20 is a United States Department of Homeland Security document issued by Student Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) participating schools, certifying that a student has been admitted to a full-time study program and that the student has demonstrated sufficient financial resources (funds for school and living expenses) to stay in the USA.

Schiller International University is licensed by the Department of Homeland Security to issue forms I-20. Our campus in Tampa has two Designated School Officers (DSOs) – meaning they are authorized by the SEVP to issue I-20 forms. US Student Visa application process can take up to a several months. To see an estimated visa appointment wait times for your country, please visit: Visa Appointment Wait Times (

Once you have received your I-20 the DSO will take over and guide you through the visa application process.

For any questions regarding the visa application process, please contact us:

The University does not provide any type of insurance coverage for students. Students are encouraged to maintain personal health and accident insurance through an employer or independent provider. Sample websites with different plans that may be available online.

You may want to secure a temporary stay (up to a week) at a short-term facility prior to or upon arriving in Florida while you visit the local complexes in person before engaging in a lease. Please check the Student Handbook for our Tampa Campus for more information.

It Is Time to Pack and Prepare for the Trip

A packing list can help you remember to bring everything you need. Don’t forget to add things to help you feel at home. If your apartment has a kitchen, consider coordinating certain items with roommates to avoid crowding the kitchen with duplicate dishes and appliances.
