Schiller International University and IBM recently presented SIBT, a training center that aims to be an educational reference in the field of technology applied to business and to promote the development of digital skills demanded by the market. Starting in January 2022, SIBT will offer training programs in digital transformation, artificial intelligence, disruptive technologies for business, cybersecurity and data analytics at the Schiller campus in Madrid. 

The SIBT was presented at the online event "Business Technology, Solutions to Change the World" at the IBM Client Center in Madrid, with the presence of the Councilor for Innovation and Entrepreneurship of the Madrid City Council, Ángel Niño, the CEO of Schiller International University, Marta Muñiz, and the Vice President of Technology for IBM Spain, Portugal, Greece and Israel, Javier Valencia. 

Throughout the day, keynote speeches, round tables and interviews took place at the IBM Client Center in Madrid, with the participation of various expertsSchiller alumni, SIBT program directors and authorities in the field of business technology in Spain, who reflected on the challenges and opportunities posed by technology applied to business and the need for specialized training to face the demands of a global economy marked by uncertainty. 

In the morning session, Emma Fernández, independent advisor of companies such as MetrovacesaAxway and Openbank, opened the day with her keynote speech, "The Platform Economy: The Transformative Power of Technology in the Business Ecosystem.” She highlighted the importance of multidisciplinary training to survive in a context that is inevitably heading towards a change of model. Next, Almudena Román, General Manager of ING Retail BankingFlorent Bannwarth, Director of Operations at BlaBlaCar and Fernando de Pablo, General Manager of the Digital Office of the Madrid City Council, reflected on the panel "How Technology is Changing the World,” giving an optimistic view of challenges such as the digital gap. Marta Muñiz sat down with Concha Monje, researcher in Robotics and Systems Control at RoboticsLab, UC3M, to explore the limits of what is acceptable in "The Ethical Challenges of Technology.”

The afternoon began with a panel discussion, "The Transformative Power of Data,” with the participation of Daniel del Pozo, Head of idealista /dataMaría Borbonés, IBM Client Engineering Solutions Architect and Luis Reina, IBM Data & AI CTO, who confirmed the enormous potential of data to optimize business strategies and the focus of SIBT programs on the skills demanded by the current job market. Two of our alumni currently working at IBM, Eduardo Angulo and María Álvarez, spoke with SIU Provost Victoria Bamond about the influence their training at SIU has had on their career path in the talk "SIU Alumni at IBM: The Keys to Learning for a Future Professional.” The day concluded with a technology demo by Ginés Carrascal, IBM Certified Architect, during his talk "Quantum, the Quantum Computing That Will Change the Way We Learn.” 

We will have the special pleasure of hosting as invited speaker Mr. Edward Cross, economist, former MP (MDC) of the Parliament of Zimbabwe, and commentator on the economies and politics of southern Africa and Zimbabwe.

Each paper to be read will be allotted 30 minutes of presentation followed by Q & A sessions. Papers are ideally to be at least 2500 words.

Special consideration is given to graduate students.

Only a select number of papers will be read due to limited time and space.
