Faculty Spotlight: Prof. Dr. Geoffrey K. Writes
In our ongoing Faculty Spotlight series, we turn our attention to the esteemed Prof. Dr. Geoffrey K. Writes, a renowned educator hailing from Germany. With a wealth of knowledge and a passion for teaching, Prof. Writes has been a valued member of the Schiller International University community since April 2015. He has contributed his expertise to a wide range of subjects, leaving a lasting impact on students at the Heidelberg campus.
Prof. Writes wears many hats as an educator, offering his insights and guidance across an impressive array of courses, including Financial Accounting, Business Finance, International Corporate Finance, and many more. His teaching portfolio spans undergraduate and postgraduate programs, reflecting his versatility and dedication to nurturing young minds in various fields of study.
What do you like most about the subject you teach?
I like mostly corporate/real-life case-related subjects.
When you are not teaching, what do you like to do most?
When I'm not teaching I enjoy reading, traveling, and listening to music.
Tell us some anecdotes about your teaching experience
I vividly remember moments when students were stressed by the burden of written examinations, spending hours on the exams, and leaving exam sheets empty.
Do you remember specific people who left an impression?
I remember most of my students. I enjoy not only leaving an impression on them but also learning what I can from my students.
If you weren’t a teacher, what would you be?
If I wasn't teaching I would enjoy being a medical doctor or perhaps a race car driver
Do you think students nowadays are different from those 10 years ago?
Yes. Especially with the advancement of technology and the way we learn, students have changed a lot.
What advice would you give to students?
Stay ahead of the pace of technological advancements. Try to pick up practical experiences in vital working tools like MS Excel, MS Access, SAP, Oracle, knowledge in Coding and OpenAI. This will greatly help your future.
What is your favorite place to relax?
I enjoy taking a walk through the woods and at the beach/lakeside. These places fill me with a sense of calm and relaxation.

The City Library is a great place to spend time!
What would you tell students who may be considering coming to study to Europe or the US with Schiller?
Schiller is a perfect place to study in small and concentrated groups with exposure to the corporate world. You will have the unique advantage of double degrees and experiential learning.
